What a shame that a bunch of vandals keep good people out. This looks like a great place for photography. Do they ever have tours so that you could get some shots? Kathy
A lot of history in the few words of this plaque: battles, settlements, pioneers and slaves, blacks and whites, Federal and Confederate. A beautiful, interesting and touching image.
Kathy, I don't know about organized tours, but I used to be able to pick up a map at the gate and wander around looking for all the interesting spots in the cemetery. The map not only pointed them out, but gave a brief background on the history of each one.
That looks like a wonderful place to take pictures. It's a shame that you can't go in there anymore. You were still able to capture a very nice and imformative picture.
I do love older cemetaries. Too bad about the fences and vandals. And thanks for the tour of the college on your previous posts. I scrolled through you wonderful blog. Aren't finches cute.
It's really too bad that it's closed. Was it due to vandalism? If so, then it's good that they closed it, but so sad to have to do that. I love the history and thoughts in these places. The sign is really beautiful, and it seems unusual and very nice that they once provided maps with info on the all or many of the markers.

Its a shame that someone who wants to just walk and wander can't do it.
Very interesting Lois, it's different from the cemetery that I've visited here.Looks to be a calm and serene place.

Lots of people still don't believe Florida was involved in the Civil War. What are they teaching our kids in school these days?
Your blog is one in my reader that I save for last -- not just because it is alphabetically near the end -- every day.
This is my favorite photo so far.

I like the seal of Florida at the top of that sign! It really is a shame you can't go in anymore. Looks like a nice peaceful place.
Pioneers and slaves side by side, I like this!
very interesting
That for informing us of what happened here in 1829.

I too hope someday you are able to find out if they provide tours. So much history, so much beauty there.
Ha! I'm glad you're getting the pictures somehow!!

Thanks for visiting my blog. MB
Amazing. They have to keep living people out.
It's a shame that there isn't another way; Like giving the vandals a permanent "home" there!
I'm glad they haven't put up a wall you can't see through though.

I love the shadows across the marker
great photo
HI Lois !! This is a beautiful and lovely shot !!Simply fantastic @@
It's sad the miscreants have made it so you (and others) can't visit and absorb the history and pay your respects there.
That would be an interesting stroll through history in that cemetery!
