Does that look like a face to you in the trunk of this old dead tree? I think it does. In fact, it reminds me a little bit of those scary trees in the forest next to the yellow brick road in the 1939 movie "The Wizard of Oz". It is located in Myers Park.

That was exactly what it reminded me of. I was never sure which scared me more, those creepy trees or the flying monkees! Kathy
Very romantic thought...and,maybe there is some squirrel family living inside this tree! :)
Great shot!

How very nice! I suppose it is been sculpted??
I wouldn't want to walk too close to that tree, it does look like it has a face and kind of a scary one at that!
Sunny :)
Oh yes, it is definitely a scary face!
I liked the trees in the movie, it was the flying monkeys that gave me nightmares!
Thay's cool. I did think it had a face at first.
I was thinking the same thing, or the trees in the kids show, HR Puffinsuff I think it was called.
Is it just that way, or has someone carved it? It would be spooky thing to encounter on an evening walk!

Yes! I see the face! It looks as though it was deliberately carved. Wow--what a great capture.
I should have known you love the Fall. You are a kindred spirit, Lois!
I see what you mean. Great find!
That was the 1st thing that came to my mind when the pic loaded - the scary trees on Wizard of Oz! heheheee
I see it and I think I'd avoid it at night! Looks kind like an unfinished totem pole...
Nice that you took good care of that lizard! They are rather cute and I'd always try not to hurt them when I caught them, but sometimes there tails came off!
Something spooky out there! ;)
for a horror movie
It looks like something sculpted, not entirely natural. An interesting an a bit scary piece of wood!
I agree. It does seem to have a face like the one in the Wizard of Oz. Looks rather old.
Reminds me of The Lord of the Rings, for some reason.
That's a very unusual tree find. It could be a face, but I see a lady's long ruffled gown - of the 18th century.
Is the large hole a bird's nest?
Cheers.

I wonder if it was made that way when cut down? It looks like a face from some Indian mask.
I really thought it was a carving not a natural effect. Such an intersting find.
Face? Yup. Looks just like «Louis'» former father-in-law...
Don't go poking your hand in there, Lois! We don't want some creature pulling you in!
Oh yeah, the "Tree ent" in The Lord of the Rings.
It does look like a face. Maybe that's why they haven't removed it.
EGAD! Lois! You're right!!!!
