What a Poser!

Posted by Picasa

I think this is a Black Headed Caique, which is one of the most playful birds you will ever meet. Right before I took this picture, this bird was lying on its back and being tickled mercilessly by its owner. The bird was loving it. If I hadn't been laughing so hard, I could have taken a decent picture. After the tickling episode, the bird jumped up, stood on one foot and posed. What a cutie! Enlarge this picture to get a better look at the eye color on this bird. It's beautiful!

Never really thought about birds being either ticklish or having their tummy tickled. Great colours Lois.

The colors on this feathered bit of fluff are dramatic. What a character! I love the one foot thing. I agree about the eye, not only the color, but I think I'd lose in a staring contest!

Fun shot, Lois!

Reminds me Nelson, a bird that is seen around Hyde from time to time with its owner.

A great poser indeed! And a beautiful one!
If you really like this kind of birds you should travel to the Manu Biosphere, in the Peruvian Amazon. You simply wouldn't believe your eyes! They gather by the hundreds on very specific points of the river banks very early in the morning to eat some minerals they need to neutralize the eventual poisenous fruits which are part of their diet. It's unbelievable!

A real ham huh? Don't you love it when humans and animals interact so comfortably? Oh, and you aren't kidding about those eyes.
