In Need of a Little Trim
This is what happens to palm trees when they aren't pruned. I've been seeing these two beauties at the end of a driveway in my neighborhood for years and have always wondered why they don't cut those dead palm fronds off. They sort of look like they have beards or maybe they are wearing skirts!

Well, I think they are scientifically called, "Bearded palm trees." But then, I live in Minnesota, what do I know?
Today I woke up with the noise of electric saws! They are pruning the palm trees around my house... :-)
I always thought it was a strange look, myself. I would hate to be the one that had to trim them. Can you imagine all the insects under there?
Some people don't believe in pruning anything....It would bother me. How is your GS?
When palm trees get like that they remind me of hula dancers. I've heard that rats like to live in them.
I like this picture.
These are pretty funny. We've got some in our neighborhood that look something like these, but I don't think I've ever seen so many dead fronds - these are extraordinary...
The owner may just be trying to save money.
I'm sure glad you're not roaming my neighborhood camera in hand. I better get the palms trimmed quick or I'll be the talk of the bloggershere. (I keep thinking one good low-level tropical storm will do the trick.)
What strange-looking palm trees. I like them as they are.. :D
I didn't know that! But, it DOES look like they're wearing dead leaf skirts - They really really should take care of them. Jeeez!
I'm no tree expert but arn't some Palm Trees suppose to be like that?Sunny :)
They do look bearded! I guess some people like the "natural" look.
When I saw the thumbnail of this photo the first thing that popped into my head was "those, trees are wearing grass skirts".
Is this maybe where the Hawaiians got their ideas for those grass skirts? What a great photo - I didn't know this happened, and my family even own a few palm trees in Morocco!
We have a few that are beginning to need a trim.
Yes, rats, birds, owls all nest in the fronds.
They are definitely a fire hazard that way.

I don't have that problem here in Ohio. I know my son used to have that problem at his house in Jupiter but since his divorce he is living in a condo in West Palm Beach and doesn't have outside work to do. We have falling leaves or will have though some are on their way down as I type.
Maybe they're going to put some cheap sunglasses on them and make them look like two thirds of ZZ Top.
Polynesian grass skirts! I can almost see them dancing the hula! :D
Beautiful Palm Trees.I Feel that they are looking more beautiful with Beard :) rather then without.Great..Unseen Rajasthan
Interesting. I have seen a few stalks left untrimmed, not the whole lot like this.
Let nature do the trimming.
They look like Tiki huts. Weird, yes? MB
What B Squared said. Ew~!
Hula skirts did come to mind. But I would not stick my hand up there either!!
I like it like that too. if i were the owner, i'll paint it coloured that will look like a real hula skirts indeed!
Hula skirts, or maybe a ratty winter shawl. I actually kind of like it the way nature intended.
