Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium is empty now, but when college football season starts in the fall, it will be filled with over 80,000 screaming fans cheering for the Florida State University football team. I took these pictures yesterday and it was a little overcast, but I'm not complaining since we have needed all the rain we have gotten this week!

This place is huge!Great idea Lois, fabulous pictures!
Léia
It won't be long till Bobby has them standing on their feet.
Did you read in the FSView about the guys who got busted using the empty stadium as a driving range to work on their golfing skills?
It won't be long at all and not will there be screaming there, but in my house as well!!! HUGE fans live here.
Overcast is great for photos 'cause you don't get those huge contrasts and huge blown-out white areas...
And I love these photos - just great perspective and they really do fill up the mind with the empty theme!
Wonderful photos, Lois. This stadium is so huge compared to the ones we have around around Jupiter.
Have a wonderful day :D
I am just flat out nosy, but wondered if you or the folks down there where you live, have any idea of how many millions of dollars they take in off of their football games? I think you would be amazed as I was at Ohio State. It is an astronomical sum of money and it makes me wonder who gets it.
That is sooo huge!
Somehow, this empty stadium looks even more impressive than if it were full. The scale is just awesome!
Don't stadiums look so much bigger when they are empty?! Great photos Lois!
Wonderful shots of an empty field! I can imagine the crowds on game days though!
Abe--I don't know how much money is generated by the football program, but it is in the millions. Mostly from TV revenue I think. They certainly do support themselves though and I think they give some of it to academics, but I would have to do more research. It really is a lucrative enterprise. I used to go to the games when my daughter was a member of the FSU Marching Chiefs. Bobby Bowden is a big fan of the band!
Wow that stadium is big. Must be impressive when full
Great photos! I'm curious - how did you get into the stadium? Note to Abe Lincoln: while athletic programs have substantial incomes, in 90% of the programs, their expenses are even greater. Yes, 90% of college athletic programs operate at a loss and require funds from the academic side of the ledger to stay afloat. College athletics is basically an entertainment industry. In my opinion, the teams should be separated from the university and the names and logos licensed to another entity - say the alumni association. The players could then be paid fairly and the costs borne by spectators, not taxpayers who thought they were supporting education. OK, sorry for the rant!!
What a great submission for the empty theme!!! I cant wait for September myself so we can enjoy college football again ;)
Thomas--It's OK to rant if you want! FSU does not have a huge campus in area because it is located right in the middle of the city of Tallahassee, so this stadium also has administrative offices, classrooms, athletic facilities, etc wrapped around it. I am an FSU employee and I just walked into the stadium part of the complex and took the pictures.
Lois, Do you go and scream too or is football not your thing?
It does seem huge and empty doesn't it? Yet it's not hard to 'hear' the chaos of gameday ... maybe some residual energy?
Wow that's a hughe stadium! Maybye I like it more when it is empty than filled with people... :)
Paul-I used to go to all of the games when I was a student and also when my daughter was in the FSU band a few years back. Now I do most of my screaming at home while I watch the games on TV!
that is so FULL of emptiness!
Nothing says empty like an empty football stadium! Great choice for theme day.
That's a great theme day post!! Look at all of those empty seats!
Excellent shot for theme day Lois. Did you stand out in the middle of the field and practice any cheers?
Hey - where is everyone!! It's so EMPTY and lonely. Great photos, Lois! It must be great fun to watch a game here!
I believe this is the 'biggest emptyness' I've seen on theme day! Well done, Lois! Very impressive!
