Just so you know....

It is not unusual to see this kind of warning sign near lakes or ponds in Tallahassee. Alligators usually don't bother people unless you bother them first. However, they love dogs and have been known to come right up out of the water after a small dog even if it's on a leash. They can move pretty fast too, so it's best not to tempt them. I didn't see any alligators on this walk, but that doesn't mean they were not there. Click on the picture to enlarge.

Hi Lois
Great post today. I have never been troubled by alligator on any walk I have taken. Bitten by a rottweiler a few months back, but it is really not the same.
Besides I note from the sign it is illegal to feed small dog to any alligator in FL.

I've seen many crocodiles in Africa and also aligators in Central and South America, but have never been in a place where you can accidentally find them and that must be very exciting! :-)

This makes me think of the bear warning signs we have here all over the place. They don't usually bother dogs, though, and are just found rummaging through unlocked trash cans in the middle of the night.

As they say
*don't swim at dusk or night or early morning
*watch out during mating and baby alligator season

I am not big in going in the Florida lakes and rivers lots of critters to watch out for

Great post, thanks for taking your time and sharing
